The complex of salt lakes “Pannonica” is located in the center of Tuzla, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Salt lakes represent artificial accumulation of water inside the shells that are built from a combination of geosynthetic and natural materials, and during the summer season they are filled with clean, healing salt water for which the city and Tuzla spa resorts are very known.

The first phase of the development of „Pannonica“ was completed with the construction of the first lake in July 2003. Then came the construction of the Archaeological Park – Neolithic Settlement with a museum setting in 2006. In 2008, another salt lake was built as well as the tourist attraction – Salt Waterfalls. The third stage of development was completed with the opening of the third salt lake in 2012.

In 2012, the City of Tuzla and the salt lakes complex was awarded the second award of UNWTO ULYSSES AWARD, which is the highest award of the United Nations World Tourism Organization for Innovation in Public Policies and Management for the “Valorization of the Natural Heritage – Pannonian Salt Lake in Tuzla” project and innovations in the area of tourism.

In 2013, the City of Tuzla and Pannonica complex won the International Tourism Award ZLATNI INTERSTAS 2013 for outstanding contribution to the development of tourism in the city of Tuzla and a significant contribution to the development of tourism in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

A special tourist attraction within the complex “Pannonica” is the Archaeological Park – Neolithic Settlement, which represents a replica of a Neolithic settlement with nine dwellings. The idea for the construction of the Archaeological Park in Tuzla was built on the basis of an archaeologically interesting and for this area rather unique place where the remains of the Neolithic settlement was discovered in 1955. The site is not only unique in its way of constructing and the appearance of the settlement, but also for the confirmation of the oldest salt production and exploitation of salty water in Europe.

The Archaeological park – Neolithic Settlement is a kind of museum exhibition in the open space and its contents show the visitors the way of life of people in the Neolithic age, from the way of constructing their residential and auxiliary facilities to making ceramic dishes, stone and other tools, that is the material and social life of that time.

The complex of salt lakes „Pannonica“ is managed by the public utility company “Pannonica” Ltd. Tuzla.
